It has been an outstanding year for Lancashire’s Colleges and Sixth Forms. Cardinal Newman College in Preston, in particular, is celebrating another bumper set of results.

This year the College saw a 99.4 per cent A-Level pass rate, with 100 percent pass rate for BTEC students. Of those students, 71.3 per cent achieved Advanced Level High grades, proving that Cardinal Newman consistently achieves outstanding grades at both A-Level and Level 3 BTEC.

However, these headline figures don’t come out of nowhere and are built up of thousands of individual success stories from the diverse student body at the city centre Sixth Form. Stories like, Ahmad Khoda, formerly of Archbishop Temple High School, who has secured himself a place to study at Columbia University in New York. Ahmad is planning to major in Economics at the Ivy League University, having secured a scholarship after completing the Sutton Trust US Programme.

Ahmad is not the only one of Cardinal Newman’s students heading stateside. Dani Hajdukiewicz, formerly of Parklands High School, has earned herself a Soccer Scholarship at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay. Dani who studied Psychology, PE and Drama at the College will soon be fulfilling her dream to play ‘soccer’ in America!

Other successes for the college have come in the shape of the number of offers that their students have achieved for Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science. These notoriously competitive degree courses are some of the most difficult to get into, but the students at Newman have once again showed what they can do with 35 students achieving offers, many of whom secured more than one offer.

The College has also had another successful year for Oxbridge applicants, with 15 of the College’s students being offered places to study at arguably the world’s most famous and prestigious institutions.

All this success is down, in part to the HE* programme run by Cardinal Newman. Designed specifically for students achieving the top grades in their GCSEs and with aspirations to progress onto a top university, either in the UK or abroad, the HE* Programme aims to help its students to achieve their goals. As part of this programme, the College is also able to offer the HE+ Programme. Run in conjunction with Cambridge University, Cardinal Newman College is the Cambridge University Hub for Lancashire, helping students to prepare not only for applying to Cambridge, but to any of the UK’s Russell Group universities.
