A shopping centre in Preston was evacuated on Tuesday after an alarm went off.

Visitors at St George’s Shopping Centre had to leave the building after the alarm sounded, but bosses said it was caused by a fault, and there was no emergency.

A spokesman said a break glass panel had sounded because of a fault, and the evacuation was “standard procedure”.

Shoppers were able to return to the centre as normal.
