Town House Coffee and Brew Bar in Friargate closed down for a week to carry out a mini-refurbishment.
And now, thanks to the generosity of supporters, the business is back serving up a healthier option to shoppers, office workers and students in the university quarter of the city.
Town House first opened its doors back in June last year and immediately hit it off with a more discerning clientele.
The family-run business launched with the aim of “trying to achieve a consistent high level of healthy, ethical and locally-sourced food,” as well as serving top quality artisan coffees and tea and also a range of fresh smoothies and soft drinks.
Five months in owner Bernice Newton launched the crowdfunding appeal with ther aim of raising £6,500 to help upgrade the coffee shop, offering contributers complimentary drinks and large discounts in return for their cash support.
“We wanted to continue bettering the business,” she explained.
“Anyone who donated to the cause was offered a reward for supporting us.
“Everyone has been really supportive. We have been completely honest about everything we are trying to achieve and trying to provide.
“It has been appreciated by a lot of people who are looking for maybe a healthier choice to eat, a quality coffee and to just come and relax and just chill out.”
