Preston alive with new Bavarian delights

Preston's Flag Market was transformed into a outpost of Bavaria this weekend as the city held its own version of the famous German celebration, Oktoberfest.

Held on both Friday and Saturday, there was beer, bratwurst and lederhosen galore with hundreds of revellers in attendance.

Organisers said prior to the event that 30,000 litres of ale was being shipped in and it may be safe to say that there would not have been many steins left to fill by the end.

And if that wasn’t enough, there was also a traditional Oompa band to keep feet tapping.

Coun Peter Kelly, cabinet member for culture and leisure at Preston City Council, said: "It is great to see such a vibrant, well-attended event hosted in the city centre, adding another strand to Preston's cultural offer.

"Events like Oktoberfest are not only great fun, but help support the local economy by increasing footfall."

Oktoberfest originated in Munich in the 19th century and still attracts visitors from around the world.
