And Vernon Carus Sports and Social Club in Preston is launching its first this weekend, with three ale and hearty days of drink, food and music to add to Lancashire’s growing list of beer-based events.

Organisers of the festival, which also includes three games of cricket to wile away the time between pints, are keen to stress it isn’t only about beer. Vernons are laying on a host of ciders and a top quality gin and Prosecco bar, stocked with 15 gins and a selection of tonics.

The festival will be showcasing more than 20 locally-sourced beers, including a chocolate orange stout and such spledidly named offerings such as Pheasant Plucker, Otto and Griselda, Parson’s Pledge and Smoking Pistol Hazy.

A barbecue will be sizzling all weekend and there will be live entertainment including the Lightfoot Collective and the Old School Idles.
