And the job has not been a simple one, with raised platforms used to secure the huge sheets of glass in place.

This milestone follows on from market traders being invited on a tour earlier this month to see what progress is being made.

Council bosses recently announced the Market Hall is tabled to open before Christmas and urged visitors to the city centre to take a sneak peek at the progress being made.

A town hall spokesman said: “ The inner structure and floor slab of the new market hall are now complete and installation of the glass walling is underway.

“Specialist lifting equipment is being used to manoeuvre the glass into position including a ‘spider’ crane.”

The market project will cost £50m.
