A Subway spokesman was unable to provide any information on the shop or when it would be opening, but a sign has gone up in the window saying “Opening Soon”.

The worldwide chain’s outlets are run by franchisees.

The Subway story began back in 1965, when Fred DeLuca set out to fulfill his dream of becoming a medical doctor.

Searching for a way to help pay for his education, a family friend suggested he open a submarine sandwich shop.

Today, Subway is the world’s largest submarine sandwich chain with more than 44,000 locations.

It already has around a dozen outlets in and around Preston.

A Subway spokesman was unable to say when the shop would be opening.
