New Preston sport bar set to open later this year

A new sports bar is on its way to the city centre.

If they are of wall-to-wall football with matches from obscure international leagues nobody has heard of, you’d be wrong.

The brains behind Wings & Beer Co – due to be opening in Cannon Street in the coming weeks – believe there’s more to sport than just football.

And the plan is for the establishment to tick more boxes than the traditional sports bar offering.

Boss Lee Dalziel said: “It’s going to be a food orientated sports bar serving American-style ‘game day food’, such as chicken wings, nachos and sliders.

“It’s going to be high-end design like you would expect to find in Manchester and Liverpool.

“It won’t be loads of people standing up watching the big screens, it will be mostly tables, private booths with private TVs, that type of thing.”

Lee is hoping for an opening date in August or September and bar already has a social media presence before its grand opening.

As a meat trader, he is keen to serve British produce for the American inspired menu and is keen to stress there will be more than the usual on offer at this particular sports bar.

He said: “I think the football will take care of itself, for me, there’s so much more than football and I want to have niche sports like motorsport on as well as tennis and golf, for example.”

The Cannon Street location – just off Fishergate–- has been vacant for a number of months but was previously the Ocean bar and grill.
