A Preston signage company which has clients right across the UK got a VIP visit following a £5000,000 investment.
Mayor of Preston, Councillor John Collins, heaped praise on Sign Build after the firm’s recent expansion.
The company, based at Red Scar Business Park, is reaping the rewards following a significant investment in machinery in recent past months.
Coun Collins enjoyed a tour of the Sign Build factory which, has recently seen new machines installed on its factory floor, including; an Oce Arizona – large format flatbed printer, a Henrob – self piercing rivetor and Canon’s Zund – digital cutter, enabling the company to now conduct all customer work in-house.
Coun Collins spoke about the business, who are specialist designers, manufacturers and installers of signage throughout the UK, and specialise in the housebuilding sector.
He said; “I’m tremendously impressed with the business and also surprised at how modern the new machines are.
“Sign Build really is a thriving business and I’m proud to see a Preston company expanding and doing so well within its specialist sector. It was a pleasure to visit the factory.”
Coun Collins was shown a number of demonstrations on the three new state-of- the-art machines and even tried his hand at riveting on the Henrob machine, a professional fastening method in which two workpieces are joined together giving an ‘invisible rivet’ appearance.
During the tour, Sign Build also created a unique framed picture for Councillor Collins to take away.
The frame was made and cut out on the Zund G3 2XL Digital Cutter at the start of the visit and the picture, which was of Coun Collins and the mayor of Recklinghausen, Germany, Preston’s twin city, Christoph Tesche, was then printed directly to a panel of aluminium composite using the Arizona.
Mark Cowin, owner of Sign Build, which is celebrating its 25th in business, was delighted with the mayoral visit.
He said; “It’s an honour to have Councillor Collins visit our business. He showed great interest in all of the machines and got the hand of riveting right away!
“We’re extremely proud of what we do and how well the business is doing.
“The decision to invest in these new machines and bring all work in-house means that quality is never compromised and completion times are even quicker than before.
“We wanted to give Councillor Collins a memento of his visit and we felt giving him something that he saw being created was the perfect token and proves exactly what we can do.”
