Dave Holmes, operations and technology director at BAE Systems – Air, said apprentices were the lifeblood of the company’s world-leading programmes including Tempest, the future combat air system which is scheduled to enter service with the Royal Air Force in 2035.

He said: “The contribution our apprentices make is vital to ensuring we can deliver on our commitments on programmes which protect our national security both today and in the future.

“We have been committed to investing in our apprentice programme for generations and this year we will taking on even more people including here in Lancashire which is great because we recognise that getting people back to work and creating jobs is a national priority.”
