The Be Inspired Business Awards, The BIBAs, has introduced an Apprentice of the Year category as one of its 19 prize categories which are now open for applications.

The prize will be given to an apprentice who can demonstrate outstanding commitment to their continuing development whilst also making a positive difference to their employer and the wider community.

The category is sponsored by BAE Systems, one of Lancashire’s biggest employers which is recruiting more than 200 apprentices within its Air business based in Samlesbury and Warton.

Dave Holmes from BAE Systems

Dave Holmes, operations and technology director at BAE Systems – Air, said apprentices were the lifeblood of the company’s world-leading programmes including Tempest, the future combat air system which is scheduled to enter service with the Royal Air Force in 2035.

He said: “The contribution our apprentices make is vital to ensuring we can deliver on our commitments on programmes which protect our national security both today and in the future.

“We have been committed to investing in our apprentice programme for generations and this year we will taking on even more people including here in Lancashire which is great because we recognise that getting people back to work and creating jobs is a national priority.”

The category is one of a number of new sections up for grabs at the awards, including Innovative Business of the Year and Education Establishment of the Year.

The awards is holding its annual boot camp to help applicants to develop their entry forms and prepare for interviews.

The workshop will be held virtually on February 18. Visit the awards website at www.thebibas.co.uk.
