Preston-based Recycling Lives has acquired the former McCoy Brothers Ltd, saving and creating a number of jobs at its site in Rock Ferry.

It is the recycling and waste management business’ fourth new facility opened this year, bringing it to eight sites across Lancashire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester and the Midlands, including a state-of-the-art Recycling Park in Preston.

The acquisition has saved the jobs of 11 existing employees of the business on Ebenezer Street, which had gone into administration, and created an additional job.

It follows another national award win for Recycling Lives, after it won the Impact on Society award in the national industry awards of the British Institute for Facilities Management recently.

Recycling Lives is a unique business, using its recycling and waste management operations to directly support and sustain a number of charity programmes; including food redistribution to support charities, offender rehabilitation to reduce re-offending and services to tackle homelessness, as well as job creation from its growth.

Managing director William Fletcher said: “We’re proud to already have made an impact in Birkenhead by saving and creating jobs.

“This site will continue to be a scrap metal and scrap car processing facility from which we’ll offer the best prices on the Wirral.

“Our commercial growth is matched by the growth of our charitable programmes.

“We recently opened another of our HMP Academies – prison workshops offering training and work undertaking welding and fabrication for offenders – in a Merseyside prison, HMP Altcourse, while our food charity is growing significantly.”
