And next week he will be in Preston sampling the city’s puddings and other top food as the Love Food, Love Preston campaign gets under way.

The promotion also includes a Dine With The Stars event, when restaurant-goers may find themselves sharing a table with the BBC TV star or Emmerdale actor Danny Miller.

Gregg said: “It’s an honour to be invited to take part. A month-long event like this really does put Preston on the national food map.

“I am really looking forward to sampling some fabulous food.”

The Preston Business Improvement District’s (BID)Love Food, Love Preston campaign officially launches on Saturday July 30 with the Lancashire Market, on Friargate between running between 10am and 5pm, and Dine With The Stars taking place later that evening.

The Lancashire Market, a firm favourite in the foodie calendar, offers visitors to Preston the chance to purchase specially-created Lancashire produce directly from the manufacturers.

The event, which began in 2010, regularly attracts thousands of visitors.

Later that evening, from 7pm, the popular Dine With The Stars event will see Masterchef judge Gregg Wallace and Emmerdale’s award-winning actor Danny Miller visit Preston’s restaurants to join diners for a surprise bite to eat.

The identity of the restaurants they will visit is a closely-guarded secret.

Mark Whittle, Preston BID manager said: “No tickets are required – simply make a reservation to dine at one of the restaurants advertised and you could be lucky enough to have one of our guests join you”.
