Former Wigan rugby league star submits plans for coffee shop and bar in Chorley village

A rugby league star looks set to touch down in a picturesque Lancashire village with the launch of a coffee shop and bar.

Salford Red Devils captain Lee Mossop wants to turn the former Royal Bank of Scotland branch in Croston into the new venue

The plans also include the first floor being used as a function room.

Prop forward Lee, 31, has submitted an application to Chorley Council's planning department.

The Croston RBS branch on Town Road closed in January, 2019, after the bank announced it was closing a further 54 of its branches in England and Wales with the loss of 258 jobs.

The bank said the closures were due to the collapse of plans to float off a new "challenger bank" under the Williams & Glyn name.

Lee has submitted the application on behalf of a development company - Mossgreen Developments Ltd, of Orrell - of which he is a director.

The council says it aims to decide the application by August 24.

A former Wigan Warrirors star, he has just signed a two-year contract extension with Super League Salford, who he joined in 2017.

Salford sit 10th in the Super League table, but the season has been suspended since mid-March because of the coronavirus pandemic.

It is due to restart next month.

Lee played in Wigan's Challenge Cup Final win over Leeds Rhinos at Wembley in 2011 - coming on off the bench before having to leave the field after dislocating his shoulder. He returned to the action at half time despite his injury.

Lee also played for England Knights and the England first team and signed for Parramatta Eels in the Aussie NRL.before returning to Super League.

He played in Wigan's Grand Final defeat by the Leeds Rhinos in 2015.

And for Salford in their Grand Final defeat by St. Helens last season.
