Dig In Trustee Gillian Bennett said: “We are thrilled to be honoured this way and thank you to everyone who voted for us.

“The garden is a form of horticultural therapy and helps ex-service people unlock their potential. Very many of these professionals are used to being a part of a team with structure and routine and when they leave the forces they often lose that focus and direction which can be very tough.

“It’s a safe and structured support mechanism and as well as the therapeutic advantages, there are also practical benefits like woodworking projects in a purpose built shed which is extremely popular amongst the ex-service professionals.

The charity, which has featured on Channel Five’s Homefront, took up roots in a quiet corner of Ashton Park, Preston, eight years ago.

The makers of the game say the board, which will hit the shops on October 22nd, will showcase “the great and good of Preston”.

A spokesperson for Winning Moves UK said: "Several Preston charities will get to feature and it’s our way of thanking the public for getting behind the game so very enthusiastically.

“The public got behind a charity vote earlier in the year beyond magnificently. Thank you to everyone who voted.

“Dig In polled extremely well and is very much cherished in Preston and beyond, from what we have seen.”

Earlier this year, Winning Moves UK announced that Preston was set to get its own Monopoly game after seeing off a host of other places across the north-west in a 'beauty contest'.

The new game will be available at all major toy and book stores in the city from October 22 including Waterstones, The Works and Ryman.
