Blackpool-based Ross said he chose Preston because he thought the business would provide something different.

It also had a strong position in Fishergate.

He said: “I’m sure Mr Simms will be a great unique addition to the Preston high street.

“Mr Simms offers a delicious and delectable collection of traditional and contemporay sweets, candys and a large range of exclusive Mr Simms Fudge and Chocolates all served in a nostalgic Olde Sweet Shoppe atmosphere.”

Since the first Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe opened in Leek back in September 2004, in the heart of the Staffordshire Moorlands, the Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe Franchise has grown amazingly.

It now operates more than 100 of its Victorian-style shops.

The shop’s appearance on the Preston high street is just the latest in a flurry of recent launches in the city centre.

They include Café and sandwich shop Flavours Of Winckley Street, which has opened just off Winckley Square.

Two weeks ago Heavenly Desserts opened in Miller Arcade.

And Winckley Square itself is now home to SoLita, an award-winning grill and bar chain.
