It started with a Joke, audacious dub science and some cassettes of New York radio’s revolutionary master mixes of the late 70s-early 80s.

Killing Joke marked Dr Alex Paterson’s entry into the rock ‘n’ roll world, as both roadie and vocalist.

The Orb was born on a warm, Sunday summer’s afternoon after original members Alex and Jimmy Cauty (Rockman) had driven back from a Shoom party in Brighton to Transcentral. Using an OBX and decks, the pair cooked up the idea for ‘Lovin You’ (aka ‘A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules From The Centre Of The Ultraworld’) and history was made. With dancefloor friendly chart hits like Little Fluffy Clouds and Toxygene, alongside more experimental works like 17-minute classic Blue Room from the U.F.Orb album, The Orb were at the forefront of ambient house, securing their place as international club favourites.

Having collaborated with everyone from Nine Inch Nails to Pink Floyd’s David Gilmore, The Orb are still in demand, and continue to produce top-notch original material.
