One highlight will be Brighton’s Carnival Collective in Market Square from 5.30pm - a 20-piece big band featuring samba drums, horns, harmony vocals and big bass. They will be preceded by musicians from Larks in the Park youth music festival, supported by More Music, from 3.30pm.

This month’s First Friday has a visual arts and crafts theme. Luneside Studios in Castle Park will open to the public from 5.30pm and stage an exhibition by their artists at the Dukes from 8.30pm.

The Dukes will also be showing Lambert and Stamp a documentary about the men who discovered and managed The Who. The screening will be followed by live music in the bar.

Poet Sarah Hymas will unveil ‘audio walk’ Lune Rising around Lancaster Castle, telling the story of the city in 2060 after sea levels have risen. A voice guides you around this unfamiliar coastline but can you trust her? The walk will be available to download from www.artscity.co.uk/lune-rising or a preloaded MP3 player from the Castle shop.
