White Ribbon events to challenge violence

White Ribbon Fest has been organised by local campaigners Men Against Violence, and coincides with today’s ‘White Ribbon Day’, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Events will raise awareness of issues like domestic abuse, encourage men and women to work together to stop it, and raise funds for Preston Domestic Violence Services.

The first event is White Ribbon Night at the New Continental from 7.30pm tonight, followed by the Sunday Creative Chillout at Korova Cafe on Sunday, November 30 (6.30pm until 11pm).

White Ribbon Night at The Continental will feature up- and-coming band Blind Tiger. There will also be a short talk about domestic abuse from John Clough from Justice For Jane, the father of a young woman tragically murdered by her ex-boyfriend in Blackpool four years ago.

Tickets cost £7, or £5 concessions, and can be bought from the venue either in person, on the night or over the phone by calling the pub on 01772 499425.

The Creative Chillout will take place at Korova Arts Cafe, Charnley Street, on Sunday. It will be a mixture of music and entertainment including singer/guitarists Tom Metcalfe and Avital Raz, popular local close-up magician Magi’Chris and Tom Little, stand-up finalist from BBC New Comedy.

Entry is free but a minimum £3 donation to Preston Domestic Violence Services is encouraged.
