They include boat trips, nature talks, arts and crafts activities, tutorials with Lancashire’s Community Heritage Team and talks by library staff.

There is also a discovery trail through Lancaster Maritime Museum during the first two weeks in August.

David Hennessey, Lune Aqueduct Project Officer for the Canal & River Trust, said: “These activities offer a unique insight into the wildlife and history of Lancaster’s waterways and offer something for both adults and children.

“At the beginning of the school holidays it’s a great way for families to start summer.”

Andrew Walmsley, from Lancashire County Council’s Community Heritage Team, added: “We’ll be showing how you can use the wealth of fascinating material available online and in Lancashire’s Museums, Libraries and Archives to research family and local history using canal families and events as examples.

The events take place on Monday August 4 and Monday August 11 from 10am until 3pm.

The discovery trail at Lancaster Maritime Museum will run from August 4-11.
