Korova Arts Cafe & Bar hosted former Inspiral Carpets star Tom Hingley just before Christmas and on Sunday, July 6, Tom Hingley will make a welcome return – as well as being supported by a local act he was a boyhood hero to.

Tom Hingley was lead singer with Inspiral Carpets, where for 22 years between 1989-2011 he sang on all their chart hits.

He parted company with them in 2011. Tom is solo now and has just released two albums through Pledge music – the first Sand is an acoustic album which starts with a heartbeat and ends with a string quartet; the second is an electric guitar album, with a punkier grittier experience.

Hingley will be supported by local band The Delatours, whose lead singer, Lee Johnson, is a tutor at Cardinal Newman College.

Growing up in Atherton, Johnson was inspired by the music that came out of Manchester such as The Smiths, The Fall, New Order, Stone Roses, Happy Mondays and of course Inspiral carpets.

Lee remembers This is How it Feels being played on a ghetto blaster in a school science lesson in 1991, and says his favourite Top of the Pops performance of all time is the Inspiral Carpets performing
I Want You with the legendary Mark E Smith.

Tickets: £3.
