Widdershins with witches

Marking last year’s 400th anniversary of Lancashire’s Pendle Witch Trials, CraftyMoon Theatre presents The Wild Wood of Widdershin at Café Korova in Preston tomorrow.

The play fuses live performance and film and is an adaptation taken from the recorded trial in 1612, where 13-year-old Jennet Device condemned her entire family to death for the practice of black magic.

Manchester-based CraftyMoon Theatre, who performed at last year’s Tringe Festival, specialise in voice, movement and film and are made up of four visual artists.

They mix classic horror, myth and folk song and in their first performance at Korova, in St Wilfrid Street, hope to bring “a night of forbidden sensuality to Preston.”

Blackpool’s Grand Theatre next week launches two summer season shows – Ooh La La and Step Back In Time.

Both have been choreographed by legendary comic duo Cannon and Ball with help from associate director of the London 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony, Nathan Clarke, who has also worked for Take That, Leona Lewis, Pixie Lott, Alicia Dixon, Alexandra Burke and Elton John.

Step Back In Time, opening next Tuesday, celebrates the careers of some of the world’s greatest musical artists – Elvis, Queen, the Bee Gees and Michael Jackson among others, hosted by and starring Cannon and Ball, amid cirque acts, sumptuous costumes and more.

Ooh La La, opening August 1, is a French burlesque revue with some of the world’s top performers, including singer Katie Shepherd, European star and aerial contortionist Emilia Arata, and Cuban circus performer and gymnast O’Neil Reyes, who has wowed crowds worldwide.

Comic juggler Romano Frediani is direct from Las Vegas and the All-Star Dancers complete the bill.
