David Tennant in the RSC production of Richard II which will be screened in Lancaster later this month

The Dukes Cinema has announced a new season of satellite theatre which will see some of the world’s greatest stage actors and directors beamed across the nationand into Lancashire.

The season kicks off with five recorded screenings of King Lear as Simon Russell Beale takes the title role in this National Theatre production of Shakespeare’s famous play.

Directed by Oscar-winning Sam Mendes, King Lear will be shown at The Dukes on May 5,11,15 and 31.

Making a return to the big screen on May 22 and 25 is the National Theatre’s production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, first broadcast in 2012.

This recorded version is based on Mark Haddon’s acclaimed novel and has been described as ‘a phenomenal combination of storytelling and spectacle.

The current NT Live season ends on June 12 with Alan Ayckbourn’s play, A Small Family Business, a riotous exposure of entrepreneurial greed.

The Dukes is also continuing to screen performances by the Royal Shakespeare Company throughout spring and summer.

The first ever RSC screening of Richard II starring David Tennant will be shown again on April 20 and 29.

Antony Sher takes the crown on May 14 for a live broadcast of Henry IV Part One and again on June 18 for Henry IV Part Two.

The current RSC satellite season ends on September 3 with a live screening of Two Gentlemen Of Verona. Tickets are £14/£13 concs (includes £1 per ticket fee when booking online).
