Sensational 60s night

After an 18-month sabbatical from the touring circuit (two years in the case of England), the band is back on the road with a new tour.

The break has given them an opportunity to pursue other musical avenues and individual projects, as well as working on new material.

They return refreshed and re-invigorated working up to, and focusing on next year when they will be celebrating 40 years in the music business.

“They say absence makes the heart grow fonder and, I know that I speak for all of us when I say, I’m excited about getting back on stage with the band,” says singer Bruce Guthro.

“I think the break has been very positive for us ­­- it has given us a freshness, and an energy, of which the audience will be the main benefactor.”

The Sensational 60s Experience is at Preston Guild Hall on Sunday night starring The Tremeloes, Hermans Hermits, The Union Gap UK, The Ivy League and hosted by the latter’s Jon Brennan. It’s a new production featuring all the original hits performed by four of the most popular bands of the 60s. The Tremeloes continue to tour all over the world and were the first British 60s band to have hits in South America. Herman’s Hermits chalked up more than 20 top 20 singles, 10 hit albums, and three movies while The Union Gap gained worldwide recognition when their first combined release Young Girl hit number one in the UK and number two in the USA.

Daniel Sloss was the youngest stand-up comedian ever to perform a solo season in London’s West End, at the age of 19. Find out for yourself what he has to offer at The Dukes in Lancaster next Friday. Having starred in Michael McIntryre’s Comedy Roadshow, 8 Out of 10 Cats, Mock The Week and his own BBC show, The Adventures of Daniel, this young Scottish comic talent started gigging aged just 16. Now 21, he has toured internationally and sold out four Edinburgh Fringe seasons.

He will be joined here by special guest Kai Humphries.

World-famous clarinet player, Acker Bilk – now in his 80s – will be performing with his Paramount Jazz Band at the Platform in Morecambe on Tuesday.

He gained worldwide fame with hit singles Stranger On the Shore in 1962 (which stayed in the charts for 55 weeks and was the first number one hit in the UK and USA simultaneously) and Aria in 1976.

In 2001, he received an MBE for his services to the music industry and in 2005 gained a BBC Jazz Award for his unique contribution.

Collaborations include concerts and albums with the late Humphrey Lyttelton, Chris Barber and Van Morrison.
