Tickets are on sale for Naked Confessions of a Recovering Catholic at Thornton Little Theatre on Saturday, October 11.

From the streets of inner city Manchester to the boulevards of Beverly Hills via the Madchester music scene and a house with an outside toilet, he offers a funny snapshot of life overlooked by an all-seeing and often unforgiving God.

This hilarious romp through the guilt-ridden and occasionally darker realms of life is another brave step for Terry, as he brings all the maverick qualities that made him a media bête noir on The Word to the fore in an honest, funny and sometimes profound indictment of religion and the beauty of always, as a last resort, being able to blame God for everything.

Sex, violence, religion, class prejudice, it’s all contained.

In part two of the show, Terry opens himself up to the audience for a no holds barred Q&A session which often results in hilarious stories about Hollywood stars like Tom Hanks and Arnold Schwarzenegger and his all-time thrill of meeting the late great James Brown.

In a colourful life, Christian went to school with John Maher, the drummer with The Buzzcocks.

After gaining an HND in Applied Biology at polytechnic, Terry found himself unemployed in 1981.

And, oddly, he owes his career to Margaret Thatcher. The impact of her reforms on Manchester meant World In Action chose the city for a programme, Devil’s Advocate, in which they invited a 100 teens to voice their feelings. Christian stood out – and was offered a job, starting a lifetime in the media.

He was one of only two of those 100 to make it – the other being a 17-year-old Johnny Marr, later of The Smiths.

Christian launched his Barbed Wireless, on BBC Radio Derby where he showcased new music, from jazz funk, reggae and punk to indie. Terry also managed 12-piece reggae band Junior C Reaction and promoted The Fall, Nico (of Velvet Underground fame), Pop Will Eat Itself, The Cocteau Twins, Misty In Roots, James and Inspiral Carpets.

In 1988, Terry returned to Manchester to present the 6-9pm slot on Piccadilly/Key 103 as The Stone Roses and the Happy Mondays led the Madchester scene.

He then launched The Word on Channel 4 on August 17, 1990, which included TV firsts for Oasis, Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine, Jamiroquai, The Manic Street Preachers, EMF, Mary J Blige and Snoop Dogg and attracted the major stars of Hollywood such as Tom Hanks, Sharon Stone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Halle Berry Patrick Swayze, Jean Claude Van Damme, Leonardo De Caprio and River Phoenix.

He presented the UK’s biggest football phone-in The Final Whistle on Talksport from 2006-2008.

And, more recently, he was seen sharing the Celebrity Big Brother house with Page 3 model Lucy Pinder, rap star Coolio and Verne Troyer, who played Mini Me in the Austin Powers movies.
