The Cambridge Touring Theatre bring their outdoor summer production of the Robert Louis Stephenson’s children’s classic to Rufford Old Hall, near Preston, this Sunday evening.

The rip-roaring outdoor show is a specially adapted new version of the great children’s tale of the seafaring adventures of young Jim Hawkins and the dastardly Long John Silver, with songs and dances for young children and their families to enjoy.

Visitors are welcome to come in pirate costume and bring picnics to the performance in Rufford Old Hall’s Beech Paddock.

The Guardian said the show: “has families rolling around their picnic mats with laughter,” while The Stage said of it: “Full of energy, verve, vigour and enthusiasm… the whole performance is a laughter-filled treat from start to finish.”

Children aged five to 10 can join in with a fun theatre workshop before the performance, exploring the story of Treasure Island, making their own seafaring adventures and meeting some of the play’s characters.

Cambridge Touring Theatre founder Rosie Humphreys, who formerly worked for London’s English National Opera, said: “The reason I started Cambridge Touring Theatre was as a result of seeing the joy experienced by my own children as they watched live theatre.”
