Gilbert turns his sharp wit to the followers of the Aesthetic Movement of those days and makes fun of high-flown language and posturing.

Not so well known now as other G&S operas like The Mikado or The Pirates of Penzance, Patience proved hugely popular at the time and Gilbert’s clever words together with Sullivan’s delightful music show us why.
