Once they arrive, on Ladies’ Day, secrets come out and the relationships between them change.

Meanwhile, as the wins mount up, they realise they may have a chance of winning the jackpot. It all depends on the last race.

Full of good humoured female banter, with moments of great poignancy, it is a play well worth seeing.

Opera Viva’s Lady Bracknell Entertains, which was nominated for two NODA awards, Best Concert and Best Ensemble, is a confection of Victorian and Edwardian music, lightly dusted with the wit of Oscar Wilde.

Wilde’s imperious Lady has invited her friends and her household to an Evening Party where everybody, including the audience, must perform at her command. With musical entertainment from the Opera House to the Music Hall and a visit from the local Gilbert and Sullivan society, the concert is a showcase for the range of talents of this versatile company.

Opera Viva are also planning Marriage of Figaro in May, a Viva Verdi concert in June, and Fête à la Française with French food and music in October.

Lady Bracknell Entertains will be at Holy Trinity Church Hall, Hoghton Street, Southport, at 7 30pm on Friday, March 28. Tickets at £10 and £8. Call 07732 207317.
