That last Battle remembered

This year sees the 300th anniversary of the last battle on English soil and a decisive moment in the first Jacobite Rising.

Working with Preston City Council and the Harris Museum, the event – from 10am-4pm each day – is part of a project raising awareness of the importance of Preston as a battlefield and the impact it had on the old town.

The Queen’s Regiment and the Rose and Thistle will take visitors back in time with soldier and civilian encampments from both sides of the battle; displays of uniforms and clothing, equipment, accoutrements, accessories and weapons and drills and live firing displays.

On Saturday troops will leave Hoghton Tower to march on Preston and meet at the Market Square. On Sunday, the event will run alongside Hoghton Tower’s monthly Farmers Market.

Hoghton Tower General Manager James Dean says: “We are excited to be working with Preston City Council for this important anniversary.

“The event will be a great family day out as well as being a way for people to learn more about their local history.”
