Lancashire funnyman in tribute to Sir Patrick

Lancashire comedian Jon Culshaw will unveil a specially commissioned bust of his friend Sir Patrick Moore at a celebration of late astronomer’s life.

Sir Patrick, the host of TV’s The Sky At Night passed away last year aged 89.

The event takes place at the National Space Centre in Leicester on Saturday, September 28 and will be hosted by The Royal Astronomical Society.

It will focus on Sir Patrick’s life, loves and legacies, but the highlight will be the unveiling of the bust by Jon Culshaw, who hails from Ormskirk. Jon was a good friend of Sir Patrick’s, the pair having bonded over their love of stargazing, and he often impersonated the celebrity astronomer.

The evening will be dedicated to science, astronomy, xylophones and visitors will be welcomed with the sound of Sir Patrick’s own compositions, played on the xylophone.

There will also be a whirlwind tour through the Apollo missions, hosted by Sir Patrick, as well as comet building, meteorite handling, spacecraft designing and shows introduced by Sir Patrick in the Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium. The evening will be all rounded off with some telescope sessions.
