From knickers to the stage...

Some will remember Lauren Warwick in the Channel 4 documentary Mary’s Botton Line when she was hired as Mary Portas’s apprentice to work in a knicker factory.

After a month she was sacked and branded lazy, loud and outspoken.

One year on she has gone on to open her own drama school in Manchester and has directed and produced Broken Youth at The Lowry in Salford on Saturday.

It is hoped it will also play the West End in October.

Lauren approached Broken Youth author Karen Woods, also from Manchester, and asked her if she could adapt it to a theatre production.

She also sought out non-professional actors with a story to tell.

Regina Brady of Middleton works 9-5 as a care worker and has never acted in her life.

Now she says: “This has given me a new lease of life and instilled confidence in me. It’s a dream come true.”
