The Dukes Deaf Drama group will tour the North West with their First World War play Imagine.

Imagine is a silent production, performed in British Sign Language(BSL), and though primarily appealing to a deaf audience, it is open to everyone.

Imagine was first performed last year before more than 700 people at Sign Circle, a festival for the signing community in Preston.

Set in the First World War, it tells the story of two brothers – one hearing and one deaf. Both want to fight for their country but only one can. With one brother forced to stay at home and the other off to the front, Imagine follows the siblings through turbulent times.

Free performances of Imagine will be staged at The Dukes Centre for Creative Learning in Lancaster on October 9 and at five other North West venues: Ambleside Parish Centre(October 2); Pyramid & Parr Hall, Warrington(October 5); Manchester Deaf Centre(October 15); Greenbank Lecture Theatre UCLAN, Preston(October 22) and Deafway in Preston(October 26).

The Dukes Deaf Drama group, which was established in 2014, is run in partnership with Preston-based Deafway,

Producer Jack Heaton said: “The tour has two aims. We want to raise the profile of deaf culture in the North West with the help of our partners Deafway (Preston) and we aim to recruit more members.

“By the end of the tour we hope to have enough interested members to make the group sustainable.”
