Blackpool’s Grand Theatre next week stages the World War One drama Heroes, by Lytham-based Fylde Coast Players and local am-dram director Heather Cartmell.

A gentle comedy of old age, memories and future hopes, it is set in the late 50s, when three First World War veterans find themselves together in a military retirement home in rural France.

Originally written in French, Heroes was adapted and translated by Tom Stoppard in 2003.

The roles of Gustave, Philippe and Henri will be taken by three of Fylde Coast Players’ most experienced members – Andy Cooke, Jeff Redfern and Peter Hoyle, all previous award-winners. Heather Cartmell is also highly acclaimed, having won a NODA award for best director.
