From the moment he steps on the stage as a superbly scary Captain Hook, former Emmerdale bad boy Tom Lister dominates the stage and steals the show in this pantomime version of the tale of the boy who never grew up.

Together with the comedy role Smee performed by panto favourite Steve Royle, the pair ensure this pantomime of Peter Pan is fast faced with lots of action and plenty of laughs.

Jordan Lee Davis for The Voice is cast as a convincing Peter Pan while Lucy Johnson is a perfectly mischievous Tinker Bell.

Radio Wave’s Hayley Kay, who played the Fairy Godmother in last year’s panto is the mermaid and Mrs Darling in this year’s production

This adventure filled pantomime has something for everyone of all ages from beautifully choreographed dancing and note perfect singing to double entendres, a realistic looking crocodile and a sing song featuring the current song craze What Did The Fox Say.

Tom Lister clearly relishes in his role as the leader of the pirates and delivers
plenty of swagger and one-liners. He even pokes a bit of fun at Blackpool Football club’s recent sending off of several players by talking about Blackpool making it to the Premiership – but only if they increase their squad size.

Lister effortlessly slips into his dual role as the debonair Mr Darling and even manages to earn some jeering for that.

For Steve Royle, it is his 11th year at the Blackpool Grand pantomime and he is as funny as ever.

His rapport with the audience is spot on and he shows off his amazing juggling skills with mops, buckets and cutlasses.

There’s also some very clever tumbling and acrobatics from The ‘Nitwits’ who formed Hook’s Pirate Crew as well as some lovely dancing from youngsters from the Barbara Jackson Theatre Arts Centre.

There’s something for people of all ages and it really is a seasonal treat.

Peter Pan is on at the Grand Theatre in Blackpool until January 5.
