Consider yourself part of the theatrical family

The production of classic musical ‘OLIVER!’, which begins a five-day run at Lancaster Grand Theatre tonight, is very much a family affair.

Ewan Morrell, one of the boys sharing the lead role, is a nephew of producer Sarah Pye – whose daughter Lottie also plays one of the orphans, right.

Showbiz is obviously in the blood, as Sarah is the granddaughter of Eddie Morrell, a major star on Morecambe’s Central Pier during the resort’s heyday.

The theatrical connections run deep in this production. Co-producer Suzanne Ward is the daughter of David and Peggy Brierley, whose connections with Lancaster Amateur Dramatic and Operatic Society (LADOS) go back more than 50 years.

Suzanne’s nieces Holly and Pip are both involved in the show and husband Kevin (who played Bill Sikes for LADOS in 1992) is assistant director.

The LADOS show runs until Saturday and is expected to draw big crowds to see Lionel Bart’s adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic.

Tickets cost £11 (£9 concs) Wednesday to Saturday, £9 for tonight and the Saturday matinee, £35 for family tickets (two adults, two children), and £10 each for groups of 10 and over. Evenings from 7.15pm, matinee 2.15pm.
