Come on come all Comic Con at Hall

Michael Henbury and, below, Spencer Wilding will be at the first Preston Comic Con

Stars from the world of comics and science fiction film and TV are expected in Preston on October 25.

Comic Con (short for Convention) are events in which fans of various films, shows, comic books or genres gather to take part in themed events and seek out collectables.

Experts, famous personalities and other special guests attend, along with dealers.

Guests at the Preston event will include John Bell, the young Scot who played Bain in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Angus in Battleship and Helius in Wrath of the Titans .

Star Wars fans will have an eye out for Michael Henbury, who played an ewok in Return of the Jedi and who has enjoyed many great movie roles including Harry Potter and Labyrinth.

Spencer Wilding will also attend. Spencer appeared in this year’s blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy but perhaps his most memorable recent starring role was as iconic Dr Who monster the Ice Warrior.

Other roles included Batman Begins, Ghost Rider, The Golden Compass and Wrath of the Titans and the epic TV series Game of Thrones.

Ian McElhinney whoplays Barristan Selmy in the hit HBO series will also attend.

Topping the list of comic book stars at the event will undoubtedly be Carlos Ezquerra and John Wagner.

Spanish-born Carlos is best known for his work with John creating Judge Dredd.

After only a couple of episodes, Ezquerra handed over ‘Dredd’ to Mike Mahon, who further shaped the character. Besides ‘Judge Dredd’, Ezquerra graphically designed ‘Strontium Dog’ and ‘Al’s Baby’ for 2000 AD and Judge Dredd Megazine.

In the 1990s he returned on the ‘Judge Dredd’ comic and took on ‘Bloody Mary’ at DC publishers.

American John wrote his first original graphic novel A History of Violence which in 2005 was adapted to film by David Cronenberg.

Paul Dunne, one of the three men organising the Comic Con event, said that alongside the star guests there would be more than 30 stalls selling collectibles, t-shirts and more.

He said: “There have been small events previously but this is Preston’s first full Comic Con.”

Head of operations at the Guild Hall Richard Simkin, said: “Comic Con is hugely popular in the USA and its popularity is going to make a big splash here in the UK.”

The event is on Saturday October 25 and tickets cost £10 for an early bird ticket, £6 for child early bird tickets.

Standard adult entry tickets are £6 with children priced £4.

Official Preston Comic Con material patches will cost £5.
