First up is a new work, Dominic, by up and coming playwright Alex Mullarky, performed by young players from The Apprenticed Actors Company, part of Barrow’s Ashton Group Theatre Factory.

Following four teenage friends camping in a fishing shack on the Cumbrian coast one summer night, the play explores how we remember each other, and how we cope when life does its worst.

Title character Dominic has a secret – he has done something for which, he admits: “You have to be a little bit sick.”

But what did Dominic do?

The Apprenticed Actors feature some of Cumbria’s brightest young players in a new work from a rising Cumbrian dramatist.

After staging such a new work, the following night, the South Meadow Lane pub’s Arts Space plays host to an acknowledged classic.

Young Lancaster company Bingo Dragon Theatre, who specialise in ‘white knuckle’ versions of Shakespeare’s plays, bring one of his greatest tragedies, the tale of Macbeth, to the venue.

Bingo Dragon, who formed in 2011 and are on the final date of their first ever tour, pride themselves on producing fast paced high energy versions of the Bard’s already fiercely dramatic works – and Macbeth is already renowned as one of his most bloodsoaked, near the knuckle efforts.

Tickets for Dominic are just £3 and for Macbeth £6. Both are available online from Seetickets, WeGotTickets and Skiddle or from The Continental’s bar on 01772 499 425 or Preston Tourist Information on 01772 253 731. Doors open at 7.50pm with curtain up at 8pm.
