That’s because the zany entertainment is still under the nominal control of Preston’s own Dr John Haze, the spirited ringmaster for a collection of unique performers.

The show made its mark on TV by reaching the final of Britain’s Got Talent, but there’s still nothing quite like experiencing it live.

Appearances on subsequent TV programmes have turned what set out as a cult show into a mainstream event. Last year that included a series of dates in London’s West End, becoming the first circus to appear there for 100 years.

The show started at the 1995 Glastonbury Festival and became an instant hit, touring all over the world.

The latest incarnation, The Night of the Zombie, is set in 2020, and a corpse-ridden London, plagued by the undead.

The story is interwoven with bizarre circus acts – sword swallowers, knife throwers, daredevil balancing acts, aerialists, a demon dwarf, a hair hanging beauty, fire limboing acrobats – and more.
