Still the King?

The last time I was in this fish ‘n’ chip shop it was called Skippers and I was stood next to Fleetwood Town manager Graham Alexander, still basking after his team’s promotion.

How times have changed.

Grezza has been sacked and Skippers has gone.

The takeaway has been transformed into a King Kod, which has expanded its award-winning operation on to Blackpool Road. There is not much you can say about fish ‘n’ chips apart from whether it’s got that special hard-to-define touch or not.

My meal was perfectly edible but not up to the standard set by its sister operation in Plungington Road.

So has the King lost its crown? Maybe.

The fish itself was faultless, plump, firm and white and nicely presented in a box but the batter peeled away a bit too much like greasy paper in a way common at some eateries.

The chips were good and so much better than the ever-lasting freedom fries at KFC or McDonalds but lacked that old fashioned taste.

The sausage was nice and herby but a bit soft.

Not quite top of the league.
