Sports Fest aims to get us more active
Here's our chance to all get a bit more active!
Preston Sports Festival, a three-week event organised by Preston Sports Forum in conjunction with Greenwich Leisure Limited, starts Saturday November 4, running for three weeks.
The festival sees 12 sports clubs from a range of sports including football, basketball, running, climbing and trampolining, open their doors to the people of all ages in ‘come and try for free’ sessions.
This is the festival’s second year after it was established in the wake of the 2016 Rio Olympics and subsequent I Am Team GB campaign.
Sports Development Officer at Greenwich Leisure Limited, Jessica Clegg, said: “Because of the I Am Team GB success last year we wanted to offer open sessions for people to come and try a new sport.
“After the Olympics we had about 200 new people trying new sports across Preston. It’s definitely something I wanted to do again.”
The 24-year-old added: “A lot of people don’t necessarily know that these local clubs exist on their doorsteps, so it’s good for them as well.
“I am trying to push this year even more so, so that more people take part.”
Festival organiser Preston Sports Forum is a volunteer led development group made up of representatives from local sport clubs.
The forum aims to provide a voice for sport and physical activity for people within Preston.
