A season of sci-fi – and terror

The Dukes cinema in Lancaster hosts a special season of sci-fi and fantasy films over coming weeks.

The venue is taking part in a UK-wide celebration of science fiction and the season kicks off on November 7 with The Terminator (15) which remains as thrilling and chilling as when it first released 30 years ago.

Other sci-fi sensations lined up are: Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (PG) on November 11; Back To The Future (PG) on November 15; Akira (15) on November 21; Alien (18) on November 28; The Day The Earth Caught Fire (PG) on December 2 and 2001: A Space Odyssey (PG) on December 27.

These are screened as part of the nationwide BFI Sci- Fi Season Days of Fear and Wonder supported by Film Hub North West Central.

Meantime you can celebrate the Halloween weekend at The Dukes which screens an extended cut of The Shining (15) on Saturday night.

Kubrick’s terrifying masterpiece is guaranteed to send shivers down the spine.
