New faces in the shape of the Groundfloor Blues Band proved a big hit at BJ’s Rock in the Blues Club at The Minstrel in Eaves Green.

The Liverpool band have only been on the circuit for a relatively short while, but produced a tight and incredibly well put together performance on Thursday evening.

They certainly make with an exceptional sound for a three-piece line-up.

The band comprises Mike Grant on class vocals and Vox guitar and slide, Jimmy Pendleton on pounding bass and Greg Leyland on technically superb drums.

They are primarily a covers band but their choice was varied, including many blues classics from BB King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Cream, Rory Gallagher and more.

The set kicked off with a fantastic take of One Foot In The Bayou which set the scene for the calibre of music to follow

A brilliant first set finished off with the classic Five Long Years.

The second set equalled the first with ZZ Top, Mayall and Free, plus a superb take on the Freddie King number Pack It Up.

To close, we had the classic Keys To The Highway and a great take of Clapton’s Further On Up The Road.

With superb musicianship from the whole band, Mike’s vocals were spot on and his guitar playing was almost faultless.

They will be back at BJ’s next year and I hope they have luck in finding more platforms for the music that they play, as they definitely have that little extra.
