Sir Bob Geldof

Former Boomtown Rat Bob Geldof, renowned for his tireless charity work, including Band Aid and Live Aid, will belt out his biggest hits from a career which spans more than four decades.

Irish singer-songwriter Bob rose to fame in the late 1970s as lead singer of punk rockers The Boomtown Rats, who scored a succession of smash hits including Mary of the Fourth Form, Rat Trap, Up All Night, Banana Republic and I Don’t Like Mondays before going on to forge a successful solo career with hits such as The Great Song of Indifference.

Geldof is of course now equally well-known for his political activism.

He co-wrote with Midge Ure one of the biggest selling singles of all time Do They Know It’s Christmas? which was recently re-released to raise funds to fight Ebola in Western Africa and the pair also organised 1985’s famous Live Aid concert.

The star is just the latest on an impressive list of pop and rock stars drawn to the Preston venue, with Rick Astley’s stunning show earlier this year and Midge Ure still to come in October.

Tickets to see Bob Geldof at The Charter Theatre tonight cost £25 and there are still VIP packages available.
