Review: Paramore - Phones 4U Arena, Manchester September 20

Lead singer Hayley Williams, bassist Jeremy Davis, and guitarist Taylor York, kicked off a small nationwide tour, with a sold out show at the Phones 4U Arena on Friday night.

The group were in town to promote their new self-titled album, which has recently gone certified gold in the UK.

Opening with the upbeat ‘Grow Up’, the trio were met with a chorus of screams and cheers, as they bounced onto the stage, as energetic as they’ve ever been.

It was clear, however, that some fans were not too familiar with the new material heavy set list, as the loudest reaction came when the first few chords of career defining hit, ‘Misery Business’ started to play.

Having been through a lot over the last five years, with the loss of drummer Zac Farro and his brother, former lead guitarist, Josh, it was unclear whether the band would ever get back to the top.

Hayley was keen to let the audience know how grateful they were for their fans.

She said: “Our band has gone through a lot, and we wouldn’t be here tonight if it wasn’t for you guys. So thank you. Thank you for supporting us over the last eight years.”

The reaction proves that Paramore are definitely here to stay, and are maybe, better than ever.
