Rightly famous for the breathtaking collection of objets d’art and stunning pieces of Gillow furniture, there is now an extended and upgraded play area.

A spokesman for the grand house, near Carnforth, said: “Younger visitors now have space to play, let off steam and see how we used to live.”

There is climbing apparatus, swings and a slide, complimenting the garden dens, caterpillar maze, tree face trail and Woodland Walk

The house, which opens on May 5, has no roped off areas and visitors are welcomed at the door by friendly guides and encouraged to sit on the furniture and get involved.

Open Tuesday to Friday, 2pm to 5pm. Admission £7.75, concs: £6.95, Children five to 12, £4.95. See www.leightonhall.co.uk for details.
