A cinema venture comes to one of Preston’s poorest areas this week.

Funded by the British Film Institute, the Cinema around the Corner is a pop-up cinema screen bringing blockbusters like superhero movie, Avengers Assemble, to the St Matthews and Fishwick area for five days.

And there will be days packed with activities for families and grown ups by a range of community groups, brought together by Preston based arts group They Eat Culture.

The Cinema Around the Corner comes to St Matthews Mission, in Acregate Lane, Preston, from Wednesday, December 4 until Sunday, December 8.

Fishwick and St Matthews community worker Danny Walsh said: “Cinema Around the Corner will bring a splash of culture to an area that gets nothing normally and has no access to arts.”

Wednesday is Street Active day, with activities from Preston Roller Girls and Preston Pirates BMX club. Three times BMX World and European Champion Dylan Clayton will be on hand.

Kids can help make a graffiti doorway, before a screening of blockbuster Avengers Assemble. On Thursday, adults get a Late Night Lounge with live alternative music and a feature film,.

Women and children only at Friday’s Girls Night In: Bollywood, with a showing of 2012 comedy, English Vinglish, dancing and Indian snacks.

Saturday is We Are Family! a day of retro video gaming, acting workshops with Korova Kids, an animation screening and more. Sunday is On Our Streets with all welcome to get environmental with activities on community gardening, cooking, bike maintenance, face painting and eco films.
