‘Only the gay athiests are anti me’

The four-piece – consisting of Tyler Glenn, Chris Allen, Branden Campbell and Elaine Bradley – released their third album Pop Psychology earlier this year.

Tyler claims their latest album is their best yet.

Hesaid: “Mentally, I’ve been in a bad place for a long time. I crawled off a tour a year-and-a-half ago, so this is the first time I’ve felt recharged in ages.

“It makes everything so much better.

“I’ve had one bad day on this tour, and I used to have a couple of bad days a week, so that’s a victory in my eyes – lots to feel positive about.

“And it’s a reciprocal thing, if I’m more confident, the band gets better.

“And I’ve been more honest about myself and my identity, which has helped too, the fans can know the band better.”

Tyler hadn’t wanted to come out as gay but went to a therapist and says he got really confident through talking to her.

He added: “By the time I got to this new album I wanted to be able to tell people what the songs were about in interviews.

“I think eventually, turning 30 became significant, and I wanted symbolically to leave some of my wasted years behind.

“I told my producer, got a great reaction from him, so then told my mum and dad and friends. I got it out of the way with people I speak to every day and it went very well.

“I had a lot of nice messages of support from all over about it. I think the only negative reaction was from gay atheists. I was raised a Mormon and still am, so they were upset I’m maintaining a level of faith.

“On paper it’s a contradiction, I get there is a head-scratcher to it, but I am addressing one side of myself,

“I don’t want to throw out the other side. I’m still trying to make sense of it all and no one can fault my honesty, I don’t think.

“I made the decision to come out after the record was made, but it was there in the build-up, and I think as a result it’s the most celebratory album we’ve put out. The overall tone is very upbeat, so I am very excited to see what comes next.

“I think we dabbled in too many things before but we’ve finally reached a point where we’re confident with what we sound like.

“Not to say we’re not proud of the other two albums, but we’re definitely more confident now and are sure in what we’re supposed to sound like.”
