Malcolm, who lives in Whalley, took part in a fundraiser for Garstang Arts Centre, being interviewed in front of a 70-strong audience at the venue about his career in theatre, radio and TV.

Interviewer for the event was his former drama tutor and long-standing friend Professor James Dodding of Garstang (pictured, right, with Malcolm) , who has taught drama in both Britain and America.

Malcolm, whose character Norris is one of the Street’s best-loved and most amusing characters, spoke about his early interest in drama when he lived in Burnley, his drama student days at the Rose Bruford Drama College, London, his acting and directing work with playwright Alan Ayckbourn and his move into radio and television work.

The fundraiser, held at Garstang Arts Centre, was organised by Professor Dodding. He was assisted by Alex Miller and Anthony Coppin.

Around £350 was raised for Garstang Arts Centre funds.
