Besides the annual transport extravaganza’s usual array of classic cars and other vintage vehicles on Lord Street, the day will also include the new SpareParts spectacle at the Marine Hall.

Artists, dancers, singers, mechanical masterpieces, this and more are promised, on a day, which will have a ‘science fiction’ feel to it.

Arts group LeftCoast will add street theatre, workshops and spectacular performances themed around transport.

The Marine Hall will host a cinematic exploration into the future of transport, with artist Pablo Perrezarate using audio – voices and music – and animation, to imagine how people might get about in the distant future.

If you’re feeling energetic you can take a ride of the Cyclographic-Splodge-a-Matic Spin Painting Machine created by artist Shane Johnstone.

For those of a musical persuasion, there’ll be plenty to choose from with Dan Fox’s boom bikes providing pop-up stages which will appear at various locations throughout the day, giving local bands a chance to take part.

And three-part acapella girl group, The Bobbysocks, will be performing an eclectic blend of swing, boogie-woogie and alternative country.

Later in the afternoon, a mechanical parade will sweep through Fleetwood, packed with eccentric human-powered vehicles and kinetic contraptions.

The climactic finale to SpareParts will see dance company Motionhouse stage a Transformers-esque performance, with dancers and three JCBs dancing together to celebrate the harmony of man and machine.

Michael Trainor, artistic director of LeftCoast, said: “We’re aiming to fill Fleetwood with amazing arts activities that will be bring a whole new dimension to this flagship event.

“The day will be a great opportunity for residents and visitors to enjoy this new experience as part of the Tram Sunday celebrations.”

Classic vehicles, including the original car Roger Moore used in TV series The Saint, will go on display from 10am.
