‘For me it’s about watching great live music locally’

This weekend sees the return of Lancaster’s annual Punk and Disorderly festival - now in a new venue and featuring more acts than ever.

The event will be held in The Bobbin pub today, Friday June 5, and Saturday June 6, featuring 24 punk bands from both Lancaster and across the UK.

Punk and Disorderly was first organised “as a bit of fun to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee” in 2012, originally held at The John O’ Gaunt.

Organiser Mark “Simmo” Simpson said: “The response was overwhelming from the public and the great bands who played and it has now evolved into a yearly event due to all the positive comments and feedback I’ve had.

“This year is a greater challenge to do it over two days for the first time at The Bobbin due to the amount of bands who asked to play and I couldn’t fit them in over just one day.

“The bands playing are ones I’ve been to see on many a musical journey and they always bring a friendly punk family together.

“It’s been a challenge this year, especially given some last minute changes and despite myself being in a lot of pain since getting an arm injury a few weeks ago, but I’m determined this year will be the most successful yet.

“For me it’s all about watching great live music locally.”

Punk and Disorderly kicks off today, Friday, from 2.40pm, with, in order of appearance, The Fighting Bears, Joe Mccorriston And The Blockbuster Blues

D-Liberate, Hexed, Scared, Dischord, Drop Out Wives, C.S.O.D, The Muff Wigs, Thee Overdose, and No Thrills.

On tomorrow, in order of appearance, from 1pm there is Carolina Vendetta, The Pakt, Dead Mans Hand, The Dead Puppeteers, Fat Albert, Litterbug, Riggots, Subvision, Boredom, Family Of Noise, Mayhem Freak, The Media Whores and Xtract.
