Master and student of jazz in musical reunion
Two giants of UK jazz join forces on The Continental’s stage early next month.
Mike Walker and Stuart McCallum play the popular venue on Sunday February 2.
Hailed as two of the best British jazz guitarists, Mike and Stuart are both members of groups – Mike plays with The Impossible Gentlemen, Staurt with The Cinematic Orchestra – but each has won acclaim in their own right.
They first meet nearly 20 years ago when Stuart was Mike’s student.
Since then each has performed to sold-out crowds around the world with their respective bands.
Mike is an internationally respected guitarist and teacher, having performed and recorded with many of the leading jazz musicians of today, including Kenny Wheeler, Mike Gibbs, George Russell and Vince Mendoza.
Stuart, as guitarist for The Cinematic Orchestra, contributed to the writing of the band’s critically acclaimed albums ‘Ma Fleur’ and ‘Live at the Royal Albert Hall’.
This recent collaboration came about because of a chance jam at a mutual friend’s party.
Their musical and personal rapport was immediately apparent, and the duo have since managed to make music which sounds fresh and new.
Mike Walker and Stuart McCallum play The Continental on Sunday February 2 from 8pm.
